Colorado movie fans may be interested to learn that the divorce between actors Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas is now final. The final court documents for their dissolution were filed in Los Angeles on Dec. 4.
Ms. Griffith will receive $65,000 per month in spousal support. The couple also agreed that she would receive the couple’s home in Aspen, Colorado, while Mr. Banderas will keep the home in Central Park West in Manhattan. The couple also sold two properties for $16 million and split the proceeds from the sale. Mr. Banderas will pay for their daughter’s expenses until she reaches age 19.
From all reports, it appears that the couple’s divorce proceeded very amicably. The couple is reported to have had a post-nuptial agreement in place, which may have helped the process go more smoothly. In addition to spousal support and real estate, the couple also divided a lot of other property, including Picasso paintings and cars, in their dissolution.
Property division in a high-asset divorce may be extremely complicated. People may need to get their property valued, track down hidden accounts and other matters to make certain their rights are protected in their divorce. A family law attorney may help by using the services of investigators or forensic accountants to find accounts and other assets the other spouse has attempted to hide. The attorney may also help the client to get appraisals of real estate and business valuations if those are needed. In some cases, it is possible for people to reach a full agreement even when their property division will be complicated, and an attorney might help negotiate one.
