Colorado fans of comedian and actor Chris Rock may find the star even easier to relate to given his recent divorce settlement. Despite being married for almost 20 years, the couple decided to call it quits.
Rock and his wife publicly announced their decision to pursue a divorce in 2014. However, it was only finalized after two years of back and forth between the spouses regarding the details of their split. Rock officially filed for divorce on Dec. 23, 2015 in which he stated that the couple had two children together. However, his wife’s counterclaim alleged that the couple had raised a child for years and that the child resided with the couple during this time. One issue in the case centered upon whether Rock should be required to support this other child who the wife alleged the couple had raised as their own.
On Aug.29, 2016, the divorce was finalized after the pair appeared in a New Jersey family court hearing. The wife continued her argument that the couple had raised the child together. She also alleged that she and Rock had acted in a parental role. However, she ultimately decided to raise the child and proceed with an adoption. Because the case was sealed, the actual terms of the settlement including the information regarding child support are not available to the public.
Individuals who would like to learn how their parental rights and obligations may be affected by a divorce may wish to consult with a family law attorney. Legal counsel can explain the options available and how best to achieve the desired objective.
